Prof. Gustav Schäcke, nationaler Sekretär der Internationalen Kommission für Gesundheit am Arbeitsplatz (ICOH) und Vorstandsmitglied der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Arbeitsmedizin und Umweltmedizin e.V. (DGAUM), hatte zum ICOH-Symposium über Passivrauchen am Arbeitsplatz am 10. April 2002 in der Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität, München, u.a. auch Prof. Franz Adlkofer, geladen. Dieser sollte ein Referat über epidemiologische Erkenntnisse beim Passivrauchen halten. Obwohl Internist und kein Epidemiologe, trug Adkofer seine epidemiologisch begründeten Zweifel an Ergebnissen der IARC- und der Monica-Studie vor, die alle ein höheres Gesundheitsrisiko für Passivraucher bekundeten.

Gleich zu Beginn der Diskussion über den Vortrag meldete sich NID-Vizepräsident Ernst-Günther Krause zu Wort und entlarvte Franz Prof. Adkofer als langjährigen Mitarbeiter des Verbandes der Cigarettenindustrie. Sichtlich unangenehm berührt ging der Versammlungsleiter, Prof. Schäcke, nicht direkt darauf ein, sondern bat darum, doch Fragen zum Inhalt zu stellen, was drei Teilnehmer des Symposiums auch taten. Alle kritisierten Prof. A.. Einer von ihnen wies sogar nach, dass Prof. A. die Statistik falsch interpretiere.

The "stem" information on the Verum Foundation are also incompatible with the facts.
Financing of the Foundation by the cigarette industry is portrayed as a scoop. In fact, this was never a secret. Verum was launched by the cigarette industry and is financed by it as well. We have no reason to make a secret of this. On the contrary, we are proud, because Verum is performing high-Quality, expert work in the supporting of scientific research.

I am also heading to Germany in April to try to work out a grant with Petra Netter at U of Giesen on some human projects with nicotine personality etc. That's why I need to contact VERUM.

Germany is under the ETS gun. On January 29th there was supposed to be a vote in the
MAK Commission to change the classification of ETS to a "known human carcinogen."
However, through new data submitted by the VdC and the influence of Prof. Adlkofer, the vote was postponed until June.
